All providers need to know how to address suicidality and self-harm in the people they see.
All providers - medical, mental health, and substance abuse - need to know how to effectively address suicidal and self-harm behaviors in their clients and patients. Learning how to assess for risk, refer to appropriate care, and manage suicidal ideation or self-harm behaviors is integral to providing care. The following trainings are geared toward specific provider populations.
Guidelines for Behavioral Care Providers to Manage Clients' Suicidal and Self-Harm Behavior
Behavioral care providers deal on a daily basis with clients who are vulnerable to suicide and self-harm. This two-day workshop is directed specifically to providers in these settings - mental health counselors, clinical social workers, chemical dependency professionals, psychologists, psychotherapists, case managers, nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists. Practitioners in both private practice and agency settings will benefit from this training.
Participants will learn basic facts about suicide, obtain practical tools to use with their clients, practice appropriate clinical intervents, learn when and how to make referrals to other providers or systems, understand documentation issues around self-harm behaviors, and learn how to effectively interact with their suicidal clients.
